Four people were arrested Monday night after police said they found 25 bricks of heroin in a car during a traffic stop.

An officer from the city's Zone 3 station on the South Side was writing a parking ticket when he heard three shots and spotted a Red Ford Explorer with a Florida license plate zip around the corner of South 18th and Pius streets, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said in a news release.

The officer followed the car until it lost control on Brosville Street, hit a telephone pole and rolled over.

Police let Maurice Freeman, 20, Stephen Morgan, 18, both of the South Hills neighborhoods in the city, and Derek McKissick Jr., 20, of Clairton, out the back hatch of the car and took them into custody, Ms. Richard said. She said officers found a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol, $339 in cash and 25 bricks of heroin from the car, as well as several spent casings.

Ms. Richard said a fourth man, Danny White, 28, of the West End, with a firearms violation after he "was later stopped in a second related vehicle."
