Police described the conditions for a man and woman shot Downtown Tuesday night both as stable at hospitals this morning, Pittsburgh police said.
A 47-year-old man from York, Pa., and a 32-year-old woman from East Liberty were smoking marijuana immediately before a man robbed them at gunpoint and shot both of them several times, police said.
The man was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he initially was reported to be in critical condition but was updated to stable this morning.
The woman was shot in the stomach and was in stable condition after surgery this morning.
The victims were shot near Seventh Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday. Police received multiple 911 calls from people who saw them running through Downtown.
The suspect was armed with a semiautomatic pistol, said police major crimes Lt. Kevin Kraus.
He declined to offer further information about the suspect or whether the three people knew each other before the shootings.
