Collier Development on Tuesday appealed $20,000 in fines it incurred for the demolition of two buildings at the former Iron City Brewing Co. before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Robert C. Gallo.

The buildings at the Lawrenceville site were demolished without a permit and without permission from the city's Historic Review Commission. District Judge Tony Ceoffe levied the fines in August.

Attorney Chad Michaelson, representing Collier Development, argued that the city did not meet its burden in defining the entire site as historic and that the two buildings could arguably be excluded. In that case, he said, the fine should be considered excessive.
