CMU computer science chief leaving in January

Carnegie Mellon University says it hopes by this spring to have a successor to Jeannette Wing, chair of the university's department of computer science, who is leaving CMU for a job at Microsoft Research.
Effective in January, Ms. Wing will be vice president, head of Microsoft Research International. Her area of responsibility will include research laboratories in Bangalore, India; Cambridge, UK; and Beijing, China, according to posting on the department's website.
Ms. Wing is a high profile computer science researcher whose expertise includes formal methods, security and privacy, the university said. She joined Carnegie Mellon's faculty in 1985 and has headed the department since 2004. Her departure was announced by Microsoft last month.
The university also plans to identify an interim department chair.
