Pittsburgh readies to clear flash flood debris

Pittsburgh Public Works crews on Monday will be removing debris and discarded property that was damaged in flash floods Friday in the South Hills.
Public Works Director Rob Kaczorowski said today that it will take some time for property owners to tally the damage they incurred when a powerful line of thunderstorms stalled over the area.
The storms dumped more than 2 inches of rain in 70 minutes in some locations, closing roads and trapping motorists. No major injuries were reported.
Among the hardest hit areas were along Saw Mill Run, which overflowed its banks, causing flooding on Route 51 from Route 88 to Bausman Street and on side streets in the area.
Mr. Kaczorowski said all roads are reopened and there was no major damage to road surfaces other than that of a small alleyway that runs alongside the creek. He said that alley, used primarily by residents who live there, remains opened but will have to be resurfaced because the asphalt buckled.
"We'll have a detail Monday driving through the area to pick up debris that was moved out of the way Friday. Our main focus Friday was to get all of the streets open. Now we can assist property owners by removing debris," he said.
