Three people including a Pittsburgh police officer were hurt this morning when a car collided with a cruiser in Squirrel Hill.

The crash tied up traffic near Shady and Forward avenues while city accident investigators studied the wreck. The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. but some streets remained blocked as of 10 a.m.

The officer, en route to a call, was heading southwest on Shady with lights and sirens on when a sedan heading northwest on Forward struck his cruiser, police said. The cruiser then hit a building.

Two people in the sedan were taken to Magee Women's Hospital and the police officer was being treated at UPMC Mercy.

Police described their injuries as minor.
