August workshop targets student athletic trainers

UPMC Sports Medicine will sponsor a workshop next month for high school students who are considering a career in sports medicine, or who want to enhance their high school training room skills.

The three-day Student Athletic Training Aide Workshop will be held Aug. 2-4 at The Ellis School, 6425 Fifth Ave., Shadyside.

In addition to hands-on instruction in high school training and preparation for college programs, students will receive information and training on sports concussions. Optional instruction will be offered in adult CPR and in the use of automated external defibrillators.

The program fee is $55 if paid by July 11, $65 afterward. The fee includes breakfast and lunch and a T-shirt in addition to course and lab materials. There will be an additional $10 fee for CPR and AED certifications. Deadline for registration is July 11; call 412-432-3770.
