A Pittsburgh teenager died Sunday in a car accident in Michigan, authorities said.

Thandiwe Elizabeth Baton-Stawson, a 16-year-old from Park Place, was killed when the car in which she was a passenger flipped over, while traveling on Beaver Island in Lake Michigan.

The driver, also 16 of Pittsburgh, may have lost control of the vehicle when she swerved to avoid a deer, according to the Charlevoix County sheriff.

Ms. Baton-Stawson would have been a junior at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill, according to a family obituary.

The family will hold a service to celebrate her life at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Pittsburgh Mennonite Church, 2018 S. Braddock Ave.
