A early morning crash in Sheraden sent five people to the hospital, one in critical condition, police said.

Sgt. Daniel Connolly with Pittsburgh police's crash investigation unit said emergency crews were called about 1:45 a.m. after a Mazda made a left turn and struck a Plymouth traveling inbound on West Carson Street near the Corliss Tunnel.

The driver of the Mazda suffered moderate injuries, but the passenger is in critical condition, Sgt. Connolly said. Both were taken to UPMC Mercy.

Sgt. Connolly did not know the make of vehicles, but said they weren't SUVs.

All three people in the Plymouth suffered minor injuries and were released from Allegheny General Hospital, Sgt. Connolly said.
