3 Duquesne University dorms without power to reopen Sunday

Three Duquesne University dorms that lost power Thursday morning will reopen at noon Sunday, the university announced on its website today.
"University crews are working diligently to restore power to St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption Halls," according to the university's website. "The buildings will reopen on Sunday at noon under regular systems or using generators."
About 1,300 students have been displaced from the three dorms, which lack electricity, heating and plumbing. The university determined that a bad cable located in one of the tunnels under its Academic Walk caused the power outage.
Classes are cancelled today and the university has urged students to go home to their parents, to stay with friends in other residence halls or off-campus or to stay in designated buildings on campus, including in a room of cots and couches that has been set up in the Duquesne Union.
The union and the Power Center are being kept open 24 hours.
The three dorms closed at 10 p.m. Thursday -- hours after the power went out -- but residents may retrieve items from their rooms between 2 and 4 p.m. today, according to the university.
Those in need of temporary housing may visit the Towers multi-purpose room by 10 p.m. tonight for assistance, according to the university, and later they may call 412-396-2472 to receive assistance from resident directors.
