3 Duquesne University dorms to go dark as power source moves off generators

Three Duquesne University dorms that reopened yesterday will be without power for about five hours today while crews work to restore regular service.
St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption halls will remain open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the transition from generator power to regular service, spokeswoman Bridget Fare said.
The dorms lost power at about 10:20 a.m. Thursday from what crews later determined was a faulty electric cable underneath the university's Academic Walk.
The halls reopened Sunday on generator power while crews worked to replace the cable.
Friday classes were canceled.
Students can come and go during the transition, which may be completed sooner than 3 p.m., Ms. Fare said. Bathrooms will not be affected in St. Ann and Assumption halls but use will be limited to certain floors in St. Martin Hall.
As a precaution, wireless service will be off in the dorms during those hours.
Slightly more than half of the 1,300 affected students went home or stayed off-campus over the weekend, with the other staying on campus with friends, in other dorm rooms and in lounges.
The university set up cots in a ballroom, but few used them, Ms. Fare said.
