Random Act of Kindness: A polite, observant motorist saved her much aggravation

After lunch with a friend in Market Square recently, I found myself running late to an appointment in Mt. Lebanon.
It wasn't far, but it was pouring rain and it was not my normal route. I didn't have time to fire up my GPS.
Wending my way through Downtown, I was straining to find signs to the Fort Pitt Bridge, knowing I needed to make a left at some point but unsure exactly where. I pulled into a left-turn-only lane behind a car already waiting at the red light but decided it was the wrong left.
I moved around the car, stopping next to it, only to realize that it WAS my left. I calculated the minutes lost by my error and became more anxious. I started assessing the traffic around me, trying to determine if I could make the (probably illegal) turn anyway.
Suddenly I heard a beep. My confusion and panic had caught the attention of the driver in the left turn lane. He pointed left -- did I want to go that way? Yes, I smiled and nodded vigorously. The light changed and he gestured at me to go in front of him.
My thanks to this kind gentleman who recognized my distress and so graciously accommodated my confusion. I will do my best to pay it forward.

Honesty at mall store showed how world can be a fine place
While shopping at Ross Park Mall I lost my purse. Carrying many packages and feeling physically and mentally drained, I frantically backtracked to various stores where I had shopped.
At the Gap Kids store the saleswoman who waited on me noticed my frantic behavior and approached me with concern. I told her I had lost my purse, and she told me they had found it and I could pick it up at the register.
Everything was intact. With tears in my eyes I almost fell to my knees in disbelief that I was so fortunate. I spoke to the young man who was the manager (didn't get his name) and asked him how I could thank them and express my gratitude for their honesty. He said that the thank you was enough.
"So shines a good deed in a weary world," is the quote from "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory." You can be sure everyone I know will hear about this act of kindness, especially when all you hear about these days is con schemes, robberies, carjackings and worse.
I emailed Gap customer service and asked that they please acknowledge the employees that were involved that afternoon for their honesty and for the kindness they bestowed on a hysterical customer.

Dog-walker's daily gesture benefits readers still in bed
I live on the campus of the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.
There is a lady who does not live on our campus but walks her dog here most mornings. If she sees a newspaper in a driveway, or sometimes even on the lawn, she will walk up the driveway and throw the paper to the front door.
I'm sure many of the residents appreciate this random act of kindness as much as I do.

My faith in humanity was bolstered this week.
I was in Point Breeze for an appointment, and when I returned to my car afterward I saw a package on my windshield. It was a plastic bag containing my wallet, which someone must have seen me drop. Everything inside of it was intact.
I did not realize that I had dropped my wallet, and when I think of the inconvenience and loss that might have been if it had been lost, I am overwhelmed. Thank you to that person for your integrity and honesty and for taking the time to pick up my wallet and make the effort to return it to me.
