Officers and personnel at Pittsburgh's Zone 5 police station in East Liberty have returned to their post after it was evacuated earlier this morning because of a suspected natural gas leak.
The building was vacated at about 4 a.m.
Equitable Gas shut off service to the building as a precaution, but workers later determined the odor and fumes came from a leaky gas tank on a moped stored in the property room of the station, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.
Zone 5 has resumed its normal operation.
The moped was outside, and the station has been ventilated.
No one was injured, Ms. Richard said.
Zone 5 officers worked until about 10:15 a.m. today from the city's police academy next door on Washington Boulevard.
One officer had remained in the Zone 5 station during the evacuation.
Police remained on patrol available for emergencies.
