Detectives were looking for help today in figuring out who shot a 28-year-old youth football coach in the head outside his house in Clairton.
DeMonje Rosser, a former football star who coached the Clairton Bears midget football team, was shot at 12:27 a.m. outside his home on Park Avenue shortly after arriving home.
He died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center shortly after 1 a.m.
Lt. Bill Palmer, head of county homicide, said detectives were interviewing Mr. Rosser's family and friends to determine a motive. Mr. Rosser did not have a criminal record and Lt. Palmer said he did not appear to be involved in criminal activity.
His wife was home when he arrived and heard a single gunshot, as did a neighbor who called 911. Another neighbor reported seeing a suspect running away, but police were still trying to put together a description today.
In addition to the Clairton Bears, Mr. Rosser had previously been the football coach for seventh-graders in the Clairton schools.
