WPIAL Class AAA boys champion New Castle still perfect

The New Castle Red Hurricanes ran away with the WPIAL Class AAA boys basketball title Friday night, defeating Hampton, 57-44, at the Palumbo Center.

New Castle has a 26-0 record and is the 11th boys' team in the past 50 years to win a WPIAL basketball title with an undefeated record and the first since Blackhawk in 2000.

The Red Hurricanes were paced by Shawn Anderson who scored 24 points and by Corey Eggleston who chipped in with 13..

Hampton (22-4) was led by Ryan Luter with 14 points and by Mike Pilarski with 12.

The second quarter, when New Castle outscored Hampton, 16-7, was the difference in the game. Anderson had eight points in the quarter.

Both teams will move up n classification next season and will compete in Section 3-AAAA. They will both play first-round games in the PIAA tournament this coming Friday night.
