Westinghouse nips Schenley girls in City basketball title

Westinghouse led for only 1.6 seconds, but that was the only time that counted as the Bulldogs won the girls' City League title for the second consecutive season in a 52-51 thriller against Schenley tonight at the Palumbo Center.
"What a game," said a grinning Westinghouse coach Phyllis Jones.
"You always want a championship game to be like this," Spartans coach Debbie Lewis said."
The Bulldogs' 6-foot-6 star, Shawnice Wilson, a Pitt recruit, hit the winning free throw - the front end of a 1-and-1 - to break the game's first tie since 2-2.
"I let it go," said Wilson, who had 11 points, "and I told myself it was going in."
Aquana Diggs and Shalonda WIlson each had 14 points to lead Westinghouse, which has won 19 in a row.
Junior Markel Walker, another Pitt recruit, had 15 points to lead all scorers for the Spartans (22-4), who entered the game having won 14 of their past 15.
