Washington County dentist accused of over-prescribing painkillers

A Washington County dentist was arrested today after investigators with the state attorney general's office said he overprescribed narcotic painkillers to patients.
Dr. Charles Kokoska, 48, was arrested this morning by state narcotics and Medicaid fraud agents and charged with seven counts of prohibited acts by medical professionals and two counts of provider prohibited acts.
According to the attorney general's office, Dr. Kokoska prescribed more than 6,600 narcotic painkillers and an anti-anxiety medication to seven patients. In total, he wrote about 300 prescriptions for oxycodone, hydrocodone, propoxyphene and a generic form of Xanax between January of 2009 and October of 2010.
Dr. Kokoska was arraigned at 9:30 this morning before District Judge Joshua Kanalis. His bail was set at $25,000 unsecured.
