Pittsburgh police said a man pulled a gun on the woman he lived with in Stanton Heights, shooting her in the hip Wednesday night before turning the gun on himself, leaving him critically wounded.

Police said they believe the woman asked the man she was living with in the 4300 block of Coleridge Street to leave the home at about 10 p.m. The man became angry with the woman and pulled out a gun, according to police.

The woman tried to hide in the closet of a second-floor bedroom and the man shot through the door, striking her in the hip, police said.

Police said the man then shot himself in the upper half of his torso, leaving him in critical condition.

Both were taken to UPMC Presbyterian, an emergency dispatch supervisor said. The woman was initially reported in critical condition but was upgraded to stable in the hospital later that night, police said.

Neither person's name had been released Wednesday night. Their relationship to each other was not immediately clear Wednesday night.
