A dump truck rolled over while traveling on Route 18 in Morris, Washington County last night, killing two people inside.
State police this morning identified the victims as Robert Ankrom, 51, of Graysville, Greene County, and David Turian, 51, of Nineveh, Greene County.
The single-vehicle crash happened about 10:15 p.m. on Route 18 south of Prosperity, two-tenths of a mile north of the intersection with Covered Bridge Road, county dispatchers said.
State police said the truck was traveling south on Route 18 when it drifted off the road to the right, went over an embankment and struck a large tree, causing it to roll over several times. The vehicle came to rest in an open field approximately 40 feet from the road.
The pair inside the truck, a Ford F-350, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Alcohol and excessive speed are thought to be contributing factors to the crash.
