Two people were killed when a car being pursued by Robinson Police crashed into an oncoming car as the fleeing vehicle turned illegally onto the off-ramp of Interstate 79 in Robinson.

State police are investigating.

The crash occurred at 1 a.m. today at Exit 60A, said state police from the Pittsburgh barracks in Moon.

Police said one person was a 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the fleeing Ford Crown Victoria. The other was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office as Angela Berkey, 61, of McKees Rocks. She was a passenger in the Toyota Prius that was exiting the interstate. Autopsies are to be conducted today on both victims.

Drivers of the cars were hurt, though the extent of their injuries is unknown. The driver of the Ford is described as a 28-year-old man who was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service. The driver of the Toyota was a 64-year-old man. Police said both drivers were taken to Allegheny General Hospital.

State police said the incident began when the Ford was westbound on Steubenville Pike and was being pursued by a marked Robinson police cruiser for "numerous traffic offenses." The cruiser's emergency lights and siren were activated.

The Ford then made an illegal left turn onto the off-ramp from I-79, traveling south on the northbound exit. That's when the Ford struck head-on the Toyota.

The passengers in both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.
