WASHINGTON -- A pair of Western Pennsylvania nominees moved one step closer to confirmation as U.S. District Court judges this morning.

The Senate Judiciary Committee moved the nominations of Cathy Bissoon and Mark R. Hornak by unanimous voice vote to the full Senate, where they will be considered at an undetermined future date.

Judge Bissoon and Mr. Hornak were nominated by President Barack Obama late last year upon the recommendation of Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., and then-Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., but were not confirmed before the new Congress convened. Freshman Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., offered his endorsement of the pair last month, allowing them to move through the committee process.

Mr. Hornak is a partner at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney specializing in labor and employment law, media defense and governmental representation. Judge Bissoon serves as a magistrate judge in the Pittsburgh division of the district court.
