Two people were killed late Thursday night after the tractor-trailer in which they were riding veered into two parked tractor-trailers at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center on Interstate 70 eastbound in Donegal, Washington County.

In a news release, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said the two, who are not being identified pending notification of their families, were riding in the same tractor-trailer headed east on I-70. Their vehicle struck another eastbound tractor-trailer and then careened into the welcome center. Their truck then struck two parked tractor-trailers and caught fire at around 11:20 p.m.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Several tanker trucks were brought in to fight the blaze. Once the fires were under control, hazmat units were called in for a fuel leak.

All lanes of I-70 have reopened, but the welcome center remains closed, state police said. Commuters can access the updated traffic conditions.

State police are investigating the accident.
