Two Fayette County men were arrested in Uniontown early this morning after police said they found nearly 50 pounds of suspected marijuana in their van.

Richard Settles Jr., 31, of McClellandtown, and Derrick Snyder, 41, of Uniontown, face charges of drug possession and possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A city officer pulled the men over after he spotted the driver, Mr. Settles, make a right turn without using a turn signal. When the officer stopped the car in the parking lot of the A-Plus on Connellsville Street, he smelled "the distinct odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," according to an affidavit of probable cause.

According to the affidavit, the officer frisked Mr. Settles and found a clear bag of marijuana before spotting a black garbage bag behind the driver's seat.

When officers searched the car again, they found two black garbage bags with 24 large green cylinder bundles of marijuana, each estimated to weigh two pounds, according to the affidavit. Officers suspect the marijuana could sell for $130,000.

Mr. Settles and Mr. Snyder were being held in the Fayette County Prison this afternoon on $150,000 bond, according to court records.
