Three people were injured, two of them seriously, in a two-vehicle crash this morning that has shut down a section of Interstate 79 in Washington County, emergency dispatchers said.

The accident was reported at 7:46 a.m. in Amwell, just south of Route 40 and the Laboratory exit.

Helicopters were sent to the scene to transport at least three patients.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes, but the highway was closed in both directions to allow the helicopters room to land and take off.

The southbound lanes were expected to open after the helicopters lifted off with the patients.
