A man in New Castle killed himself Thursday evening after federal agents attempted to serve an arrest warrant on him, state police said.
Heath J. Moffatt, 31, was being sought by the Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force on an outstanding warrant from Shenango Township on nearly three dozen counts of theft and receiving stolen property. The warrant was issued March 18, and the task force received it on March 23, said U.S. Marshal spokesman Tad Thompson.
The officers working the case tracked Mr. Moffatt to an address in the 500 block of Cedar Street.
About 8:34 p.m., New Castle police responded to the area, where they found Mr. Moffatt dead on the sidewalk with what they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead, and an autopsy is scheduled for later today. Officers recovered the weapon involved.
