The Steelers tapped another linebacker with their first pick in the final rounds today, Thaddeus Gibson of Ohio State -- and revealed a trade to bring back Bryant McFadden in the fifth round.
Gibson played defensive end for the Buckeyes but at 6-2, 242 pounds, he will be converted to linebacker with the Steelers, the second linebacker of their first four draft picks.
Chris Scott, a 6-41/2, 320-pound offensive tackle from Tennessee, became the Steelers first choice in the fifth round of the draft today.
Scott has been a three-year starter for the Volunteers.
The Steelers traded their second choice in the fifth round to Arizona in the trade that brought cornerback McFadden back to Pittsburgh.
They had acquired that fifth-round choice, No. 155 overall, in the deal that sent Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets.
The Steelers wound up a flurry of activity on the fifth round by selecting a defensive back and their third outside linebacker of this NFL draft.
They drafted cornerback Crezdon Butler of Clemson with the 164th pick and two spots later took Utah outside linebacker Steven Sylvester.
The Steelers finally drafted the big back they coveted, in the sixth round when they selected Jonathan Dwyer of Georgia Tech with the 188th overall pick.
Dwyer is 5-11, 235 pounds. He failed a drug test at the combine but most NFL teams waived that off because he had made them aware he was on medication at the time.
Antonio Brown, a two-time special teams player of the year in the MAC, was drafted by the Steelers with the team's second sixth round.
Brown, who played at Central Michigan. became the second wide receiver the Steelers have chosen in this draft. They used a pick they acquired in the Bryant McFadden trade from Arizona to take him. He is 5-10, 186 pounds and entered the draft a year early.
The Steelers wrapped up their three-day NFL draft today when they selected Ohio State defensive end Doug Worthington.
Worthington, who is 6-5, 292 pounds, is the only defensive lineman the Steelers drafted with their 10 picks. He was taken No. 242 overall.
FOURTH ROUND (116): Thaddeus Gibson, OLB, 6-2, 243, Ohio State ... Second converted defensive end taken by them in the past three picks . . . LB coach Keith Butler said team was impressed with his improvement as 2009 season progressed . . . Fourth-year junior (redshirt as freshman) and Cleveland area native . . . Started 23 games at Ohio State, split between left and right end . . . four sacks last season.
