The senior vice president and chief financial officer of St. Clair Hospital yesterday made a conditional use request of the Mt. Lebanon commissioners to expand the hospital's operating area.

Mike Flanagan said more space is needed to respond to the increasing volume of operation procedures being performed. The proposed construction project, of one story plus the basement of the existing campus facing Bower Hill Road, would add three new operating rooms. The hospital currently has 11 operating rooms, he said, and would lose one of the current rooms in the renovation process, resulting in a net gain of two.

The property is zoned single-family residential. Residents had the opportunity to make statements at the public hearing, and one voiced his support for the hospital additions.

In other Mt. Lebanon construction news, commissioners decided to postpone discussion of the Clearview Common pavilion project in the parklet along Washington Road. They did, however, grant Zamagias Properties an 18-month extension to meet deadlines for its Washington Park Condominium residence land development plan.

At the commission's meeting two weeks ago, Michael Heins, the chief financial officer of Zamagias Properties and the project manager for Washington Park, said the condominium market in the area had dried up and that there were no contracts signed to purchase any of the units.

The Washington Park proposal calls for high-end condominiums, priced between $300,000 and $1 million, with businesses and green space.
