A central figure in a Mon Valley-focused cocaine ring was sentenced today to 21 years and 10 months in prison.
Damel M. Gaines, 33, of Penn Hills, had pleaded guilty to conspiring to sell at least 5 kilograms of powder cocaine and an amount of crack, following an FBI-led wiretap investigation that resulted in 42 indictments.
Mr. Gaines was characterized by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy L. Johnston as a top supplier who brought cocaine from Texas and Georgia. It then flowed to dealers throughout the Mon Valley and Pittsburgh area.
Sentenced yesterday to five years in prison in the same case was Devron M. Peterson, 30, of McKeesport.
Both sentences were handed down by U.S. District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose.
