A former day-care worker already due to stand trial on dozens of charges in the alleged molestations of eight young boys waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday in four additional cases.

Matthew Keith Byars, 26, of the North Side, now faces trial in 14 cases of sexual assault against young boys. Police said he came in contact with them through his work as a teacher and in other ways. Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and Scott police continue to investigate Mr. Byars, who worked at Tender Care Learning Center in Scott.

Police said his victims were between the ages of 6 and 12. Mr. Byars was first arrested by city police July 7 after a 9-year-old boy told detectives he molested him.

In the latest criminal complaint, filed Aug. 29, police said they recovered from his computer video showing him having sex with boys, at least one of whom said he did not know he was being recorded. In that case alone, Mr. Byars was charged with indecent exposure, criminal solicitation, sexual abuse of a minor, sexual abuse of children, corruption of minors, invasion of privacy and unlawful contact with a minor.

His attorney, Todd Hollis, could not be reached for comment.
