PennDOT announced today that the start of lane restrictions for the next phase of Route 28 construction will be postponed until 9 a.m. Aug. 30.
Starting then, outbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane starting near the 31st Street Bridge and continuing to the 40th Street Bridge. Two lanes of inbound traffic will be maintained during peak travel times. The pattern will remain in place for at least two years during a major reconstruction project that will cause restrictions through late 2014.
The one-week delay will allow completion of temporary traffic signals at the 40th Street Bridge, spokesman Jim Struzzi said.
Lane closures will occur at the intersection from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights through Aug. 27. The signals are needed to accommodate a southbound traffic shift, Mr. Struzzi said.
