Roads to worsen after 9 p.m. with snow, ice on the way

You know snow is coming if ....
PennDOT maintenance crews spend the day attaching plows to their trucks.
And Pittsburgh's Department of Public Works announces that all of its equipment will be on the road tonight.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for counties that include Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland and Fayette. All of the West Virginia panhandle counties and parts of southeastern Ohio are included in the warning area.
The warning is in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday.
Freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected. Accumulations near the city could reach 4 inches or more, with about a quarter-inch of ice.
Robert Kaczorowski, director of Public Works, warned residents that the roads will likely become slick beginning around 9 p.m. and midnight, and there could be some sleet after midnight.
PennDOT said that after the plows are mounted, trucks will be dispatched to treat roadways around the clock this weekend.
"With heavy snow followed by a winter mix predicted through tomorrow afternoon, we are preparing for a challenging storm," said Jeff Karr, PennDOT District 11 assistant district executive for maintenance.
The Moon Area School District has already canceled all sporting events and practices for Saturday.
Locations to the north, such as Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties, likely will receive mostly snow.
