Following six consecutive years of falling home sale activity, the region may be embarking on its first positive year since 2004, according to RealSTATs, a local real estate information service.

For the second month this year, dollar volume, prices and the number of homes sold has increased. In February, dollar volume jumped 15.7 percent from one year ago and the number of homes sold rose 5.1 percent while the median home price gained 3.9 percent.

These three indicators point to signs that the metropolitan Pittsburgh real estate market is gaining momentum, said Dan Murrer, vice president of RealSTATs.
