Rape suspect indicted on body armor charge

The man accused of raping two women in Ross and another in Hopewell was indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge that he illegally possessed body armor, the U.S. attorney's office said today.
Arthur Henderson, 38, is currently being held in Allegheny County Jail. He was arrested last month after police used DNA evidence to connect him to rapes in Ross on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9 and to another in Hopewell on Jan. 7. He was also charged with the armed robbery and beating of a man in Ohio Township on Jan. 10.
He was arrested Jan. 20 in connection with the Ross assaults.
It was unclear whether the recent indictment stems from the rapes or the armed robbery. The new federal indictment was not available tonight, but U.S. Attorney David Hickton's office said in a statement that the indictment accuses Mr. Henderson of possessing illegal body armor on Jan. 11.
Mr. Henderson's attorney, Blaine Jones, has said he plans to have an independent DNA lab examine the evidence that connected Mr. Henderson to the crimes and that Mr. Henderson's family proclaims his innocence.
