Police seek dog that bit Crafton boy

Crafton police need to find a big black and brown dog by Saturday to spare a 5-year-old boy from a series of rabies shots.
Mason Elzer was bitten Saturday as he played in his front yard on Division Street. He needed two stitches under his eye, said Crafton police Capt. Mark Sumpter.
Mason and two other children were playing in the yard when the dog walked by, Capt. Sumpter said. Mason petted the dog and it bit him.
Police are looking for a large, long-haired dog that looks like a Saint Bernard. While some people have seen the dog before, always running loose, police have not been able to locate the owner to find out whether the dog has been vaccinated for rabies.
Police have seven days, from the time the bite occurred, to find the dog.
Flyers have been distributed to crime watch groups and police have alerted postal carriers, school crossing guards and students waiting at bus stops. Crafton officers have also been going door to door seeking information.
Anyone who has seen the dog or who knows where the dog lives should call Crafton Police at 412-921-2016.
