A man who was being sought by police who said he stole grenades and an assault rifle from a McKees Rocks home was arrested this afternoon in Franklin Park.
Cameron Russell, 22, of Avalon, is awaiting arraignment tonight on charges including robbery, burglary, reckless endangerment, theft, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, criminal conspiracy and simple assault in the armed robbery, which occurred Monday night.
McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said Mr. Russell was arrested by Franklin Park police who had staked out his girlfriend's home looking for him. After Mr. Russell dropped his girlfriend off at around 3:30 p.m., police trailed him then pulled him over, taking him into custody.
Chief Cifrulak said Mr. Russell and an armed accomplice, who has yet to be identified, forced their way into a home in the 400 block of Gardner Avenue, where a 25-year-old woman was home, at about 7 p.m.
Mr. Russell called to the woman by name and demanded to know where her fiance's gun was, threatening to have the armed man pistol-whip her unless she told him, police said.
Mr. Russell quickly found the gun, a Bushmaster 4 rifle, in the bedroom. He also stole several magazines, which were believed to be loaded, ammunition and two grenades, the chief said.
