State police Tuesday accused a Hyde Park man of stealing a bicycle from an 8-year-old leukemia patient while the boy was on a Make-A-Wish vacation.
Jason Danka, 39, confessed to burglarizing the garage of the boy's family on Dec. 5 as well as the Jan. 31 burglary of Xtreme Automotive in Hyde Park, Westmoreland County, police said.
In December, WTAE-TV reported that Aaron Jones, 8, was on a Make-A-Wish vacation at Disney World with his family when his bike, his brother's bike and some tools were stolen from his family's garage. After the theft, several strangers donated bikes to the family, WTAE reported.
Police discovered the stolen items at Mr. Danka's residence. One of the bicycles had been repainted and given different tires, and the other bicycle had been dismantled and spray painted, police said.
Mr. Danka is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $40,000 straight bond, police said. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 8.
