Pitt basketball sophomore forward J.J. Richardson has decided to transfer and has been granted a full release from his scholarship, according to a release issued this afternoon by the athletic department.

Richardson, a 6-foot-7-inch, 235-pound forward, averaged 1.1 points and 0.9 rebounds per game in 23 games played for Pitt in 2010-11. In his two-year career, he has seen action in 45 games, scored 43 points and grabbed 41 rebounds.

With Richardson's departure, Pitt is no longer over the scholarship limit. With four freshman scholarship players joining the program, the Panthers had been two over the NCAA scholarship limit of 13 last month, but recruit Jaylen Bond decided to go to prep school.
