Pitt coach Jamie Dixon landed a transfer from Centenary College who will be eligible to play immediately. Chase Adams, the defensive player of the year in the Summit League last season, has signed a scholarship and will be enrolled as a student at Pitt later this month.
Centenary is a Division I school, but Adams is eligible to play right away because Centenary is moving down to Division III and players currently on the team are able to transfer without penalty.
Adams, a point guard, will be a senior and will be eligible to play for Pitt for one season. He averaged 14 points per game, shot 39 percent from 3-point range and led the Summit League in steals last season.
Adams will provide depth in the Pitt backcourt with two other inexperienced players vying to earn the starting point guard duties later this fall. Travon Woodall redshirted last season and only has a few games of college under his belt while sophomore Ashton Gibbs is a natural shooting guard played backup point last season.
