Pirates to sign free-agent pitcher Correia

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Pirates reached agreement with free-agent starting pitcher Kevin Correia on a two-year, $8 million deal early today.
Correia, a 30-year-old right-hander, was 10-10 with a 5.40 ERA in 26 starts this past season for San Diego. For his eight-year career, he is 36-43 with a 4.57 ERA, with opponents batting .269.
This agreement, with the contract finalization pending only a physical, would be the Pirates' most prominent of the offseason to date. Correia would join left-hander Scott Olsen, who also reached agreement at these Winter Meetings, as two additions to the starting rotation.
The specifics of Correia's contract, per an industry source: $2 million signing bonus, $3 million salary in 2011, $3 million salary in 2012, plus as much as $1 million in performance bonuses.
If Correia is traded, the new team cannot offer him salary arbitration
