CHICAGO -- The Pirates acquired Miami Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez and right-handed reliever Kyle Kaminska in exchange for outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and a competitive balance pick Tuesday.

Sanchez, 28, is hitting .202 with three home runs in 55 games for the Marlins this season. He spent 34 games in Class AAA New Orleans, where he hit .302 with five home runs and a .431 on-base percentage.

Hernandez, 24, came to the Pirates from the Atlanta Braves, along with Jeff Locke and Charlie Morton, in exchange for Nate McLouth in 2009.

The Pirates sent their pick in the competitive balance lottery to the Marlins, which will be after the conclusion of the first round of the 2013 draft.
