MIAMI -- The Pirates today signed two pitchers, Blaine Boyer and Brett Sinkbeil, to minor league deals -- both are right-handed with major league experience.
Boyer, 29, has pitched for Atlanta, Arizona, the New York Mets and St. Louis, most recently appearing for the Mets in five games this season. He has pitched in 233 games --- all in relief --- at the big league level and has a 4.81 ERA in seven seasons. He elected free agency earlier this month rather than accepting a Class AAA assignment from the Mets.
Sinkbeil, 26, is a former first round pick of the Florida Marlins and appeared in just three major league games, throwing two innings for that club last season. He was released by the Marlins last month.
