Pirates remove Davis, Chavez from 40-man roster

The Pirates today outrighted starter Jason Davis and catcher Raul Chavez to Class AAA Indianapolis, clearing two spots on what had been a full 40-man roster in advance of the Winter Meetings that begin Monday in Las Vegas.

That allows the team to add players at those meetings, including in the Rule 5 draft that is next Thursday.
