Pirates place Alvarez on DL; Ciriaco recalled

Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right quadriceps injury.

Infielder Pedro Ciriaco, as earlier reported, has been recalled from Class AAA Indianapolis and is scheduled to join the team today.

Alvarez first injured his quad earlier this month and has recently experienced discomfort, missing Saturday night's game at PNC Park against the Detroit Tigers.
