Pirates one of five left in Turnbow running

The Pirates remain one of five teams in serious talks with free-agent reliever Derrick Turnbow, with at least one of those teams -- based in a large market -- having made a major league offer, according to a source directly involved in the talks.
The Pirates' approaches to date have been about minor league contracts, but they still rank among the most actively interested.
The initial feeling was that Turnbow probably would not sign until after a throwing session he has scheduled for mid-January, aimed at showing prospective suitors his shoulder is fully recovered from the discomfort that shut him down last season. But a field of suitors that had been at 11 as recently as the Winter Meetings two weeks ago has been cut in half.
