Pirates' Nady has shoulder sprain; Doumit player of week
Share with others:
Pirates' right fielder Xavier Nady has a sprained left shoulder, tests showed today, but the team has no plan -- for now -- to place him on the disabled list.
The magnetic resonance imaging scan, taken at Allegheny General Hospital, showed a Grade 1 acromioclavicular joint sprain in the shoulder, the result of a collision with a wall Saturday in Baltimore. There is no damage to the cuff or labrum.
The Pirates said they will take the next two to three days to decide what to do next. Nady will rejoin the team tomorrow in Chicago.
Also today, Pirates' catcher Ryan Doumit was named the National League's co-Player of the Week, along with Florida Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco. Doumit batted .400 -- 10 for 25 -- with four home runs. Most of that production came in a 9-for-11 flurry in three games against the Washington Nationals.
It is Doumit's first such honor.
More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
