Pirates, Doumit set to sign three-year extension
Share with others:
The Pirates and catcher Ryan Doumit have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension and are expected to announce it with a PNC Park news conference tomorrow.
All that remained for completion was for Doumit to take a physical.
No financial terms were immediately available, but the guaranteed three-year term -- plus a club option for a fourth -- will carry Doumit through all three of his arbitration-eligible years. The Pirates could have retained his rights through arbitration, anyway, but this extension affords the team cost certainty during that period and, for the player, guaranteed money.
