Pirates call up relief pitchers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Pirates today recalled relievers Steven Jackson and Justin Thomas, and they will be available for the game tonight against the Texas Rangers.
That means yet another move will be made to bring up a starter for Saturday in Oakland, and that will be Daniel McCutchen, as manager John Russell today called him "probable" for the spot.
Jackson's recall will be his second this month, but it will be Thomas' first appearance for Pittsburgh since he was claimed off waivers in the off-season.
Thomas, a 26-year-old left-hander, has been superb for Indianapolis, with a 1.30 ERA in 24 appearances, as well as a .157 opponents' batting average, 34 strikeouts and just three walks.
It would not be his major-league debut. He appeared in eight games for Seattle in 2008, with a 6.75 ERA.
