Peters schools pick temporary superintendent

The Peters Township School District last night named former West Mifflin School District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Dimperio to temporarily replace its superintendent, who recently agreed to leave his job.
Dr. Dimperio was one of a two-man superintendent search team that brought Superintendent Dr. Timm Mackley to Peters in the summer of 2006. Since then, Dr. Mackley's relationship with the board and the public deteriorated until late last month when Dr. Mackley signed a separation agreement with the district. The agreement was released to the public this week.
Dr. Mackley has returned to his home in Groveport, Ohio, two years before his contract expired in exchange for approximately $123,573, a full salary until July, and other considerations.
Although terms of the agreement call for Dr. Mackley to retain his title until July 31, Dr. Dimperio will be the acting superintendent until a replacement is found, which school board members said they hope will be by the next school year.
Terms of the contract with Dr. Dimperio, including a per diem rate, are being worked out now, said district Solicitor Jack Cambest. The school board is expected to ratify the pact Monday.
Dr. Dimperio holds a law degree and has worked in the Pittsburgh Public School system. He served as superintendent in several school districts, and as an education mediator and consultant.
