STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- On a night when the Penguins could not get their power play going, Tyler Kennedy scored with 25 seconds left in overtime to give the Penguins a 4-3 win today in the season-opening game for both teams at the Globe Arena.
Kennedy scored the first and last goals of the contest.
The Penguins did not score on seven power-play chances through the first two periods and trailed, 3-2, going into the third.
Defenseman Rob Scuderi tied it, 3-3, for the Penguins in the third period.
Kennedy opened the scoring for the Penguins when he carried the puck behind the net and beat Senators goaltender Martin Gerber from the left circle just 40 seconds into the first period.
Ottawa tied it, 1-1, at 9:13 of the first period when Dean McAmmond's shot from the boards bounced in off teammate Shean Donovan in front of Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
Evgeni Malkin put the Penguins back in front at 3:18 of the first period when he pounced on a Senators turnover near the blue line and raced in on a shorthanded breakaway and whipped the puck under Gerber.
Dany Heatley's power-play goal at 12:15 of the second pulled Ottawa even again, 2-2, and the Senators moved ahead, 3-2, 5:40 later when Jason Spezza lofted a shot past Fleury's glove for a shorthanded goal.
The Penguins tied it on a goal by an unlikely source when Scuderi -- who had not scored since Feb. 16, 2007, a span of 95 regular-season games and 120 overall including the playoffs -- took a sweet pass from Sidney Crosby and scored from the left circle at 3:56 of the third period.
The teams play again tomorrow.
