UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Former Penn State offensive tackle Tom Ricketts has left the school and transferred to Pitt.
Ricketts, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound redshirt freshman from North Allegheny High School, must sit out a year before being eligible to play for the Panthers.
"I just signed the papers -- everything's official," Ricketts said today. "It just wasn't working for me at Penn State. I was homesick. I made the decision to go there when I was 17.
"I'm just real excited to be back home now and playing for Pitt."
Ricketts was rated a four-star recruit by Scout.com as a high school senior and was an all-state selection for the Tigers.
His father, Tom, was a first-round draft pick of the Steelers in 1989.
